With spring break underway (or fast approaching), now is a great time to think about your future. While you are usually busy with classes, studying, projects and practice / competitions, this is a great week to recalibrate, relax (of course!) and also spend a FEW minutes to get ahead of the game when it comes to your career after college.

Whether you have a few months or a few years left of college— now is a GREAT time to update your resume, research employers, do some informational interviews or look for and apply for jobs and internships. Employers and recruiters are constantly looking for new candidates and the best way to stay top-of-mind is to keep your information up-to-date and ready for presentation at a moments notice.
Here’s our top 10 list of what you can do to take initial steps towards finding the internship or career opportunity of your dreams!
- Set one goal for the month of March as it relates to your career development. Write it down, track it and complete it. BONUS: If you’re feeling ambitious, set one goal per week in March!
- Add any academic or athletic achievements to your resume and Game Plan portfolio.
- Update and add your profile picture in your Game Plan portfolio and LinkedIn portfolio.
- Attach your resume to your Game Plan portfolio.
- Read through and research the companies you might want to work at. Leverage Game Plan’s company directory for starters. BONUS: Think about which ones would be the best fit for you. What are your requirements for a job/workplace?
- Review and track any community service you have completed recently. Add that to your Game Plan portfolio and resume.
- Review job listings to learn more about available opportunities in the industries you are interested in — apply if you are in the hunt for a position!
- Make a list of three people you can do an informational interview with. BONUS: reach out and schedule one!
- Review your skills and interests — update any and add them to your resume and Game Plan portfolio. Hint: Think about those transferable skills.
- Have a friend review your resume and Game Plan portfolio — proofread for any errors!
