Game Plan, an online learning, mentorship and career services that helps deliver comprehensive athlete development programs to support student-athletes and enhance the athletic department’s brand, is excited to announce a new partnership with McNeese Athletics.
“McNeese State University is dedicated to educating and encouraging our student-athletes to participate in exploratory behavior to develop a greater self-understanding and ability to make informed decisions in the future,” said Alexandra Haley, McNeese Director of Student-Athlete Services. “Game Plan provides holistic development through its comprehensive programming to ensure the acquisition of important life skills.”
McNeese sponsors 16 sports in the NCAA Division I ranks and is the longest tenured member the Southland Conference, entering its 48th season.
McNeese’s football program is one of the top teams in the FCS year-in and year-out. The Cowboys have made a Southland Conference record 16 FCS playoff appearances including playing for the national championship in 1997 and 2002. The program has also won a league record 14 conference championships.
McNeese is the home to the 1955-56 Men’s Basketball NAIA National Champions, and Hall of Famer Joe Dumars, formerly of the Detroit Pistons. As a whole, McNeese Athletics has won a total of 79 conference championships and has made numerous national postseason tournament appearances, most recently McNeese baseball’s trip to the NCAA Baseball Nashville Regional this past spring.
Through this partnership, the Cowboy and Cowgirl student-athletes will begin taking eLearnings this fall on a wide variety of life skill and personal development topics in a convenient and effective fashion. These topics will include anything from helping with the transition to college and resume writing / interview skills to sexual violence prevention and mental health.
McNeese will also look to implement Game Plan’s mentorship and career marketplaces to provide support in the transition to life after sport.
